Perry is Perry is a Chicago native, birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first TV roles were two appearances in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on the ABC sitcom Roseanne which was played by her mom. She was not allowed to perform in front of her family until she reached the age of adulthood because they were afraid of the strain it might create. Perry says she didn't want to perform in high school but decided to take up performing as a form of social interaction during her time at Northwestern University when she switched to the university from Boston University. Perry left for New York, where she landed small roles in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The feeling of homesickness led Perry her back home California, where theater jobs were readily available. Perry was a part of the cast with her mother in The Other Place at Broadway, back in 2013. She appeared in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was performed in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry was in nine episodes of the ABC drama The Family in 2016. In 2017, Perry starred in an appearance on ABC's political thriller Scandal with her father. That same year the actress was selected to play the younger model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again playing a young model of the mother's role. Despite the fact that she has a connection with her family to the character she got the role via an audition.
